Associate Director, Program Experience

Location: Remote in Canada

The Associate Director, Program Experience is responsible for connecting local Scouting programs with the opportunities and benefits that come from belonging to a global movement of over 50,000,000 young people and adults. This includes supporting Scouting events ranging in size from hundreds to thousands of participants, helping Scouts in Canada connect with international experiences, as well as managing local and national partnerships which make it easier for volunteers to plan and deliver amazing programs.

This role will be remote from your home office, and the candidate can be located anywhere in Canada.
 

Responsibilities:

In collaboration with departments, staff, volunteers and customers (youth and parents) the Associate Director, Program Experience is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining standards, metrics, dashboards, tools and programs supporting events, international Scouting and program partnerships.  

Event and Jamboree Support: 

  • Manage implementation of Scouts Canada’s Event Standards and Event Assessment and Approval Procedure.
  • Collaborate with key volunteers, staff and members to facilitate continuous improvement of event support processes, tools and resources.
  • Ensure that bespoke support plans are developed and implemented for large events and jamborees (>1,000 participants) so that the volunteer lead believes value was added, Safe Scouting reports no avoidable failures in safety, legal reports no avoidable failure in regulatory compliance, and finance reports a break-even position.
  • Contribute to other Program & Volunteer Services projects and initiatives (e.g. seasonal program challenges).

International Adventure Support – In Collaboration with the International Commissioner (volunteer):

  • Manage the implementation and continuous improvement of Scouts Canada’s International Travel Standards.
  • Ensure that bespoke support plans are developed and implemented for international jamboree contingents so that the volunteer lead believes value was added, Safe Scouting reports no avoidable failures in safety, legal reports no avoidable failure in regulatory compliance, and finance reports a break-even position.
  • Collaborate with key volunteers, staff and members to facilitate continuous improvement of our members ability to access international Scouting programs, events, awards and exchanges.
  • Provide additional operational support to the International Commissioner as required.

Program Partnerships:

  • Manage and continuously improve relationships with 3rd party program partners, making it easier for volunteers to plan and deliver Scouting programs through improved access to exciting program opportunities, training, certifications and/or other services (e.g. Duke of Edinburgh Award, First Aid certification, ScoutsTracker, etc.).
  • Negotiate program-related contracts and partnership renewals on behalf of Scouts Canada in order to increase the value provided to our members.
     

Qualifications and Competencies Required:

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience, preferably in one of the following areas: business administration, event management, non-profit management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in one or more of the following areas: business administration, event management, non-profit management, or volunteer management.
  • Knowledge of Scouts Canada’s program and its operation is an asset; ideally having experience working in collaboration with volunteers.
  • Proficient with MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Must hold a valid Canadian driver’s license.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both virtual and in-person.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage partnerships and contract for win-win outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence others.
  • Proven ability to work closely with volunteers.
  • Ability to work closely and cooperatively with others across the organization and externally.
  • Strong team player with demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Proficient with MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Sound judgment, tact, diplomacy and maturity in dealing with others.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Works in a home-office environment as part of a cross-country virtual team.
  • Blend of traditional and non-traditional (evening and weekend) working hours.
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Some overnight travel may be required, typically weekend conferences (1-2 per year) or team meetings.
  • PRC (Police Record Check) and VSS (Vulnerable Sector Check) are required before the start date
  • Mandatory training requirement.

Salary depends on skills and experience. The salary range for this position is $67,206.91 - $79,067.86 per annum.
