Associate Director,
Early Years

Location: Remote
Term: Fixed, 18 Months (September 2024 to March 31, 2026)

Scouts Canada has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Director, Early Years to join the New Program Strategy Team. The successful candidate will be part of a team which supports Scouts Canada in developing, executing, and evaluating the New Program Strategy Early Years Pilot Program. This program will develop and test Early Years program offerings across the country, engaging new youth members and their families to determine the feasibility of a full-time Early Years Program.

This role is remote, and the candidate can be located anywhere in Canada.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Support the creation and development of curriculum and execution for Early Years Pilot Programs delivering these programs across various locations nationwide.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants, members and staff at all times.
  • Attend internal and external meetings as required.
  • Assist in building the annual early years budget and project plan based on local opportunities and funding.
  • Explore new opportunities to expand beyond the initial pilots, providing curriculum outlines to interested parties for funding and partnership opportunities.
  • Liaise with all associated parties and stakeholders to ensure positive interactions and relationships, including creating and delivering a clear communications strategy.
  • Ensure successful training, coaching and evaluation of employees and volunteers as needed.
  • Work with appropriate teams to ensure all reporting is completed for internal tracking, funding and partners.
  • Complete all financial reporting while ensuring the program remains on budget.
  • Work alongside internal and external partners and stakeholders to co-design the Early Years program, testing various program delivery models and locations for feedback and potential expansion.
  • Build and maintain project critical paths and Key Performance Indicators to ensure all pilots remain on track.
  • Support the work of Program Specialists and Activity Coordinators, including but not limited to overseeing the recruitment and development of short-term hires.
  • Provide monthly and quarterly updates on the progress and execution of programs and pivot programs to meet the needs of membership as required.
  • Continually seek feedback from members to adjust programs and pilots as needed and provide
    clear and concise reports to the Board on program developments and next steps.
  • Ensure Early Years pilots have all resources required to be successful, including training, locations, and all program resources.
     

Competencies Required:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in program creation, delivery, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Minimum High School Diploma. College diploma or degree preferred.
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma is an asset.
  • Proven success managing teams.
  • Experience Managing Budgets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. 
  • Experience in the non-profit field and reporting on government grants is considered an asset. 
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Relationship Builder: Has the ability to coach, mentor and support all levels of internal and external stakeholders while building a strong rapport.
  • Organized: Has the ability to coordinate, plan and schedule multiple projects at the same time.
  • Program Management: Creative thinking to bring innovative approaches to programming with the ability to pivot and re-direct as required.
     

Working Conditions:

  • A Police Record Check (PRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS) are required before the start date.
  • Mandatory training
  • Work in a home-office environment.
  • This position is primarily remote, with travel required for program delivery and development.
  • This is a full-time, contract position (18-month contract), with the possibility to renew.
  • Sitting at a computer for extended periods of time.

Salary depends on skills and experience. The salary range for this position is $67,206.91 - $79,067.86 per annum.
