Member, Strategy Planning Committee

We’re proud that Scouts is co-led by young people, local volunteers and a staff team. By working together we shape amazing adventures where young people discover new things, make friends and have fun.

We're working on a new strategy for Scouting in Canada that will capture the dreams and goals of young people so they are prepared for success — now and in the future.  This strategy will shape what we do at both national and local levels, to provide life-changing opportunities for hundreds of thousands of young people, not tens of thousands.

Would you like to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Scouting in Canada? If so, you are invited to apply to be a member of the Strategy Planning Committee.

What is the Strategy Planning Committee?

The Strategy Planning Committee has been established by Scouts Canada’s Board of Governors to provide guidance and oversight to the Beyond 2025 planning process. The committee will make sure young people, volunteers, staff, parents, and external stakeholders are properly involved in shaping the next strategy and that conclusions are based on their feedback. They will help us spot any new risks or opportunities that come up and help us keep the process on track.

Who can apply?

To create a strategy that guides our local actions, we need input from everyone. That is why, our Beyond 2025 Planning Committee will include Board members and representatives from different parts of our organization. The committee will be made up of 9 to 11 individuals:

  • The Board Chair
  • Vice Chair of the Board (Strategic)
  • A National Key 3 Member
  • 1 to 2 Board members
  • 1 Section volunteer,
  • 1 Group Commissioner,
  • 1 Council Key 3 member,
  • 1 Young Person [Chair of Youth Committee]
  • 1 person outside of Scouts with relevant experience.

What can you expect

Committee members will contribute 3 to 5 hours a month. They will attend monthly meetings, review, analyze, and comment on reports from the management team. The committee's purpose is to ensure that conclusions are based on evidence and input from co-design activities. They will not create ideas for the plan themselves.

The committee will be responsible for:

  • Keeping the process on track: Monitor progress against the agreed principles, objectives, phases and timelines.
  • Effective co-design: Make sure the strategy is shaped by input from young people, volunteers, staff, parents/carers, and externals.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify risks and opportunities that need attention.
  • Interpretation of Results: Make sure conclusions are based on the input gathered during the co-design process.
  • Integration with Youth Committee: Work with the youth committee to make sure their conclusions are included in the plan and present them objectively to the Board.
