Building genuine, trusting relationships

The 2022–2023 Scouting year was an exciting year to expand our impact in scouting to build new, trusted relationships with partners like Great Blue Resorts, and the Bruce Trail Conservancy, and deepen our relationships with existing partners like the Duke of Edinburgh International Award. Through collaborations like these, we are able to continue expanding on the unique opportunities youth have access to through Scouting.

Bruce Trail Conservancy and Scouts Canada Team Up with a New Partnership

It is core to Scouts Canada’s mission for youth to experience a connection to the natural world by developing an appreciation for the stewardship of nature while making new friends through outdoor adventure — a new partnership between The Bruce Trail Conservancy and Scouts Canada will achieve just that.

Unlocking the value of our assets to improve Scouting programs is a critical component of our strategic plan. This partnership has already created program opportunities for Scouting youth that align with our mission and is the first of its type.

This year Scouts Canada has sold its Goodyear Memorial property, which was closed in 2015 and has not been in use for nearly a decade, to the Bruce Trail Conservancy, which will protect the land and create a new nature reserve along the Bruce Trail available to Scouts and the public.

Bruce Trail Conservancy In collaboration with Great Blue Resorts, kids staying at two of their locations this summer had the chance to embark on a thrilling journey with Scouts Canada's Adventure Club. In 2023, we invited youth to discover the beauty of nature at two stunning resort locations. With over 1,000 engaging Scouts Canada programming activities, kids were immersed in adventure like never before. The excitement didn't stop there.

Brace yourselves for an even bigger summer in 2024, as we plan to expand to a minimum of nine resorts, promising more outdoor adventures and unforgettable memories.

The Bruce Trail, stretching across Ontario, offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect with nature, learn about local flora and fauna, and promote responsible trail use. The Scouts were able to immerse themselves in the beauty of the natural world while also contributing to its preservation.

During this adventure-packed day, scouts had the chance to hike sections of the Bruce Trail under the guidance of experienced volunteers from the Iroquoia Trail Club. They learned about the importance of trail maintenance, responsible hiking practices, and the role of conservation in preserving the environment.

One highlight of the day was the interactive session on trail blazing, where the scouts were taught the significance of trail markers and how they contribute to safe navigation while hiking. To make the experience even more memorable, the participants got hands-on by crafting their own trail blaze souvenirs.

The collaboration between Scouts Canada and the Bruce Trail Conservancy represents a shared commitment to nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards. By exposing young scouts to the wonders of nature and instilling a sense of responsibility towards its preservation, this adventure day set the stage for future environmental leaders.
